Should I buy links?

Purchasing links for the purpose of increasing your Search Engine rankings is against Google's Search Engine Guidelines. This is the biggest no-no that Google has. You can still buy advertising on websites in order to drive traffic. This is an interesting situation because it's awful difficult for Google to find those break the rules if done slyly. Someone that does buy links will most likely only suffer having that link devalued to nothing.

Many of those selling advertising are covering their tales by adding nofollow tags to the links (these tags keep from passing any link juice to the linked website, offering no value in terms of SEO.) Keeping with the White Hat sentiment, if Google doesn't like it, don't take the risk. Buying a link only to find it being devalued a month later leaves you at step 1, minus some valuable cash.

Google has enlisted your competitors to help them fight link buying by offering them a way to inform on you, so might wanna play it safe and get your links the old fashioned way.

Busted by Google

I was doing pretty well with a regular strategy of link buying. Someone must have blown the whistle because I'm no where to be found in Google's organic search engine results. Overnight, I lost everything. I must have been banned. I'm fighting for reinclusion, but feel it would be easier to just build a new site and start from scratch.
